More summer fun swimming at the North Liberty Aquatic center.
Brooks convinced me to get him this chicken coat at TJ Maxx. I guess that is what I'm going to make him be for Halloween now.
Back to school Ice cream social night! The boys got to see their classrooms and meet their new teachers. They gave out popsicles, Kirkwood shirts and backpacks to all the kids. I can't believe Brooks is in Kindergarten and Carson is in 3rd grade! They are getting so big. Masks this year are still encouraged but optional. We are going back full time with no hybrid. There is an online option for those who wanted it.
Story time. Not a fun one. Jordan had fallen asleep on the couch downstairs one night when he was woken up to a big explosion pop sound around 3:30am. Harley started barking and when he looked out the window our neighbors house was on fire! He yelled up the stairs to me to get the boys and get out of the house and called 911. Me being confused came downstairs and that's when I found out about the fire. Right after I came down the cops started banging out the front door telling me to get out. Jordan had already started putting the boys in the car. In the moment I didn't even think about grabbing anything we all just got in and drove off. The first picture is from our back deck and the second is looking at the front of our house. It was a surreal feeling driving away cause by then our side tree was getting burned and I thought for sure our house was gone. I was trying to calm the boys down by telling them it was fine and the firefighters were there to put it out but inside I didn't think our house was going to make it.
We parked in the mall parking lot and could see the flames above all the trees. We just watched it for an hour or so. Then when we could tell the flames were smaller we drove back over to see if our house was burned. By some miracle it wasn't!! The flames were finally put out and both the other side houses had some damage. The main house was obviously a total loss. The owners did get out fine but everything was gone.
I feel like in the moment with all the adrenaline I was doing okay but when we finally were okay to go back to our house around 6:30am it started hitting me how close everything was to being lost. I talked to the fireman taking the final pictures before leaving and he just said over and over he thought it was going to get all the side houses and they were so grateful they finally got it under control. They didn't know what started it but they did say it started on the back deck.
Also the irony that I did a fireman appreciation kit activity for IMP and then the firestation we donated to was the one that saved our house.... I even saw 3 of the same guys that helped with the tour. Makes me grateful I randomly thought of that!
I don't know how but this is all the damage we got! The top of our tree was burnt and our lawn was just flooded from the water.
Random Brooks and Liam playing together in the morning.
